Poem of the Day---Her, The Bird
(Click through to read the full poem graphic. Or also see below for the text version.)
We never
see a caged bird
wings beating against the bars
frantic
wild-eyed
afraid
And ask her why on earth
she wishes to be free
or
mock her fervor,
her ferocity,
shame the lack of grace
in her fury,
feathers torn in the fight
never 'how impolite.'
We only see the need
We only understand
and
weary for her,
we fumble hurriedly
for the lock
on the door.
